Our marquees, pop-up gazebos, storage tents and other shelters are made from materials selected for their specific purpose within the product. Depending on the model, these may include steel or aluminium frames and covers made from PVC, PE or polyester.
The exact combination of materials varies between products. Always check the individual product description and technical specifications for information about the model you are considering.
PVC covers
Soft PVC is used for many of our marquee and storage shelter covers. The material is flexible and suitable for covers that need to withstand regular handling and outdoor use. The thickness, weight and construction of the cover vary between product ranges.
PVC products must be disposed of in accordance with local waste regulations. Waste facilities do not all accept or process soft PVC in the same way, so contact your local authority or waste facility for instructions before taking the product there.
Do not assume that a PVC cover will be recycled simply because it has been delivered to a waste facility. The available treatment depends on local collection systems, the condition and composition of the material and the facilities available in the area.
Polyethylene covers
PE, or polyethylene, is used for covers on selected marquees, storage tents and tarpaulins. It is a lightweight plastic material that is suitable for a wide range of temporary covering and shelter applications.
PE is not biodegradable. Certain types of clean and correctly sorted PE can be processed for material recycling, but this does not mean that every PE product will be accepted or recycled. Marquee covers and tarpaulins may contain woven layers, seams, eyelets, fasteners or other components that affect how the product can be processed.
When a PE cover can no longer be used, follow the local instructions for plastic products or bulky waste. Ask your local waste facility whether the cover must be separated from eyelets, cords or other materials before delivery.
Steel frames and components
Steel is used for many of our marquee, shelter and storage tent frames. It provides the strength and stability required for the intended use of the individual product.
If a cover becomes damaged or worn while the frame remains in serviceable condition, a replacement cover or other spare part may allow you to continue using the frame. Replacement parts are available for selected Dancover products, but compatibility should always be checked before ordering.
When a steel frame or component can no longer be used, it should be sorted according to local requirements. Steel components may be accepted as scrap metal, but customers should confirm this with their local authority or waste facility. Remove covers, plastic fittings and other non-metal components if required by the receiving facility.
Polyester covers
Polyester is used for the covers of various Dancover products, including selected UNICO marquees and FleXtents® pop-up gazebos. Depending on the product, the polyester fabric may have a coating or backing that provides additional properties such as water resistance.
Coatings, seams, prints, fasteners and combinations of materials can affect how a polyester cover must be handled after use. Follow local waste-sorting instructions and do not place the cover in a textile or plastic recycling collection unless the local waste provider confirms that this type of product is accepted.
Aluminium frames and components
Aluminium is used for selected marquee, pop-up gazebo and garden gazebo frames. It combines a relatively low weight with the strength required for portable frames and other outdoor structures.
When aluminium components can no longer be used, they may be accepted as scrap metal where suitable collection and processing facilities are available. Separate the metal from covers, plastic fittings and other materials if required, and follow the instructions provided by the local waste facility.
Check the local waste instructions
Waste collection and processing differ between countries, regions and municipalities. A material being technically capable of recycling does not guarantee that a specific product will be accepted or recycled locally.
Before disposing of a marquee, gazebo or shelter:
- Consider whether an intact frame or other components can continue to be used.
- Check whether compatible spare parts are available for the product.
- Separate covers, frames and fittings when required.
- Contact the local authority or waste facility if the correct waste category is unclear.
- Follow the instructions provided by the facility receiving the product.
Correct sorting gives the waste operator the best possible basis for handling each material through the processes available locally.
